Kimberly G. Key, D.V.M., Owner
Dr. Key is a 2003 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vetmed.vt.edu), and has been serving Bay Beach since her graduation. Her history with Bay Beach, however, goes back even farther. Before embarking on what would become her dream profession, she served as a veterinary assistant for several years at the clinic. Dr. Key took ownership of Bay Beach in 2014.
Although Dr. Key enjoys developing relationships with all of her four-legged patients, she enjoys her feline friends the most. In addition to serving and educating our patient’s owners during examinations, she especially enjoys the specific areas of surgery and ultrasonography.
Dr. Key lives in Virginia Beach with her family, her cats and two tireless trouble-seekers: Dudley and Hogan… the two best Pugs in the world.
Heidi Thompson, D.V.M.
Dr. Thompson is a 1997 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vetmed.vt.edu). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Forestry and Wildlife from Virginia Tech in 1993, and worked as a veterinary assistant for 6 years prior to attending veterinary school.
Dr. Thompson joined Bay Beach in 2002 after practicing in the Chesapeake area for several years. She believes good client education is the foundation for our pet’s health. She particularly enjoys endocrinology, oncology, and other areas of internal medicine. Dr. Thompson has a very busy home life with three teenagers, and a spirited Mexican-born Scottish Terrier named Una. In her spare time she enjoys crazy endurance sports such as running, triathlons, cycling, traveling, and photography.
Carin Cronin, D.V.M.
Dr. Cronin graduated from the Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine (www.vet.cornell.edu) in 1994. She joined Bay Beach as an associate veterinarian in September 2005. Her particular interests include improving the human-animal bond, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Cronin lives in Chesapeake with her husband and teenage daughter.
Lizette Reed, V.M.D.
Dr. Reed is a native of Long Island, New York and received her B.A. in Biology with a Minor in Education from Boston College in 2006. She then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010. After an internship in Massachusetts, she has spent time practicing emergency medicine in Columbia, SC and general practice in Virginia. Dr. Reed’s specific interests include behavior, emergency medicine, wound care, and soft tissue surgery.
Outside of the clinical setting, she enjoys fishing, outdoor adventures, and traveling. She and her husband, Ryan, have a beautiful daughter, one special cat named Ellie, and are on the hunt for a new canine addition to their home!
Diane Huxtable, D.V.M.
Dr. Huxtable graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 after earning her B.S. in Zoology, Biological Aspects of Conservation, and Environmental Studies. After graduating she practiced general and emergency medicine in California before moving to Virginia Beach. Her interests include preventative care, surgery, emergency medicine, and cardiology.
She and her husband have two cats, Hotdog and Gouda, and two rabbits. In her free time she enjoys backpacking, traveling, and cooking.
Heidi Breeze, M.Ed., D.V.M.
Dr. Breeze received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2006 completing her final clinical year at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. From there she moved to Maine working full time honing her skills in emergency medicine. During the past ten years she has traveled back to the Virginia Beach area whenever possible. She is extremely excited to continue doing what she loves full time back in this warmer climate.
Dr. Breeze is also passionate about bringing veterinary care to remote regions of the world such as Suriname and Thailand. She has volunteered her time to care for a range of animals including elephants, monkeys, water buffalo, stray dogs and cats. It is always a rewarding experience to work in these places for her, however it is also a reminder of how fortunate she is to be able to practice high quality medicine when she is back home.
Outside of practicing medicine she enjoys running, biking, swimming, sailing, kayaking, and hiking with her boyfriend and her adorable super mutt, Raven.
Kaitlin Knaszak, D.V.M.
Dr. Knaszak is a 2017 graduate from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture at Murray State University in Kentucky in 2013. Dr. Knaszak is been in the veterinary field since she was in high school. She became a licensed veterinary technician before going to vet school and practiced as a veterinary technician while in veterinary school. She has a special interest in emergency medicine, ultrasonography and taking care of critical patients.
She and her boyfriend have three dogs; Loki, Aubrey and Tyson and two cats; Maci and Purrscilia. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time at the beach, exploring the outdoors and traveling. You can find her cheering on her favorite sports teams the Buffalo Bills, and Auburn Football.
Gabrielle Mueller, D.V.M.
Dr. Mueller was born and raised in the Washington, DC Metro area in a home with many different types of pets, fostering a strong passion for animals from a very young age. She received her BS degree from Old Dominion University. To pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian, she then moved to the United Kingdom to attend the University of Glasgow in Scotland, graduating in 2011. Dr. Mueller continued her veterinary training by completing a one-year internal medicine and emergency/critical care internship. Dr. Mueller found her passion in emergency veterinary medicine and the Hampton Roads area, and joined the Bay Beach team in March of 2016.
Outside of working, Dr. Mueller enjoys spending time at the beach, visiting friends and family throughout Virginia, as well as going to concerts, and some retail therapy. She and her husband find that most of their time involves being pet parents to 3 goofy and lovable French mastiffs, Vera, Morty, and Morticia, and 3 incorrigible cats, Bowie, Dita, and Simba.
Abigail Schmidt, D.V.M.
Dr. Schmidt completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, and loves anything and everything Hokie. She moved overseas for vet school, graduating from the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to pursue an internship in Emergency and Critical Care medicine. Originally a military brat, she claims Virginia to be “home” and was excited to return to the state after her internship. Since then, she has worked in both ER and general practice medicine. Dr. Schmidt’s special areas of interest include preventative care, emergency medicine, wound care, soft tissue surgery, and neurology.
In her free time, she enjoys being pestered for attention by her lovable goofball of a rescue golden, Bonnie, spending time with her family, being fed ridiculously good homemade meals by “the boy”, keeping active with running and kick-boxing, being equally lazy with beach days and water sports, and going on mini-adventures.
